ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - From the first notes, the Ramon Alexander Trio filled the Market Community Theatre with infectious energy, drawing the audience into an intimate musical experience.
Their performance last Friday, 17 April, was presented by the George Music Society.
The programme featured a rich selection of pieces, performed with sensitivity and flair by Ramon Alexander (pianist and composer), Chadleih Gaowar (bass) and Annemie Nel (drummer).
One audience member, seated in front, described being drawn completely into the music, and that the performance had him dancing in his seat. He noted the trio's ability to become fully absorbed in their playing, creating a sense of connection that extended well beyond the stage. "There was such a beautiful energy," he said.
Alexander himself proved a compelling presence, balancing a quiet intensity with playful charm. "There's a bit of sadness about him," the audience member said, "but then you also catch that mischievous, almost boyish smile."
Based in the Western Cape, the trio is celebrated for a Cape jazz sound that bridges historical, traditional influences with contemporary, often eclectic, jazz arrangements. The trio has performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and internationally.
