GEORGE NEWS - The Carpe Musicam! Concert Orchestra has been bringing wonderfully enjoyable and accessible musical entertainment to the Garden Route for the past 10 years.
As part of the first decade’s celebrations, and as a follow-up to their wildly successful Ten of the Best concert series, they will be bringing The Rest of the Best concert to George and Mossel Bay in October.
This compilation of 10 more of their favourite pieces was ecstatically received by a sold-out Sedgefield audience on 12 October.
The tango, “Por una Cabeza”, played with flair by virtuoso violinist Cherith Bain and sensitively accompanied by the orchestra, showed off her technical and musical skills.
The selections from Mamma Mia! and The Sound of Music were choir showpieces, containing challenging part-singing and rhythmic figures. Once again, the orchestra’s accompaniment showed collective understanding of the nature of the music.
Also hugely popular was “The Suite” from How to Train Your Dragon. The close vocal harmonies and evocative orchestration of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” was a breath-stopping experience.
Enjoy these wonderful musical moments and lots more, all delivered in ineffable style interspersed with witty chat. Fun and educational for the whole family.
Experience this local phenomenon in the Laerskool George-Suid hall on 17 October at 19:00, and at the Mossel Bay Town Hall on 19 October at 15:30.
Tickets are priced at R150 for adults and R50 for scholars. Book early at www.carpemusicam.co.za as the tickets are going fast. Refreshments will be on sale for an hour before the down-beat at both concerts.
