GEORGE NEWS - Fancourt's 'Classic Thursdays' concert series ends on a high note tomorrow night with a foray into the fabulous world of cabaret.
Bringing the first season of these popular live shows to a close is 'A Celebration of Cabaret Classique' - a brilliant slice of musical theatre featuring talented Tenor Voldi George and Soprano Petronel Baard, supported by the George High School dancers.
Music lovers are invited to the ballroom at the Fancourt Conference Centre for the concert that will run from 19:00 to 20:00. Tickets are R100 per person and R30 for scholars.
'A Celebration of Cabaret Classique' will be a showcase of popular classical numbers, sentimental love songs and well-known songs from popular musicals. The audience will be treated to a vibrant opening act, presented by dancers from George High School and their teacher Jeannette Ziady, who will also deliver a solo performance.
They will dance to old favourites such as I Never Talk to Strangers and I Put a Spell on You. With their stunning fusion of contemporary, jazz and Latin American dance styles, they will lead the audience into the main act – a cabaret show by well-known singers Petronel Baard and Voldi George, widely admired for their combination of brilliant voices.
Petronel Baard and Voldi George will perform renditions of their own original compositions, as well as arrangements of works like O Sole Mio, Santa Lucia, Rondine al Nido and I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables. Also part of the repertoire is All I Ask Of You and Music Of The Night from Phantom of the Opera, as well as Afrikaans cabaret songs Kyk hoe glinster die Maan and Ek sal Staan.
