|SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The Garden Route Motor Club's (GRMC) annual charity Knysna Motor Show will take place on Sunday, 13 May from 10:00 (exhibitors 9:30) to 15:00 on the high school field on Waterfront Drive opposite the Caltex garage. |
This will be the second year that the Motor Show is part of the week-long Knysna Speed Festival, a series of motoring events which culminate in the exciting Knysna Hillclimb at Simola. All net proceeds from the Knysna Motor Show go to deserving local charities.
The show is a magnet for local and national petrolheads. It features a wide spectrum of classics from all over the world, but the majority are of British origin, with famous marques like MG, Jaguar, Austin-Healey, Morgan, Triumph and Lotus.
Other car clubs are welcome and in 2011 the MG Car Club South Cape, the Mercedes Benz Club and the Southern Cape Old Car Club from George will be there to show their gleaming oldies. This year the GRMC hopes to attract clubs and individuals from as far afield as CapeTown , Port Elizabeth and East London.
It is also planned that some of the cars which will take part in the Knysna Hillclimb will be on display. This will be an excellent opportunity to see these racers close-up and perhaps meet their owners, who will be challenging the hill the following Saturday and Sunday.
The Knysna Motor Show is also popular with the Garden Route motor trade, which uses the opportunity to display the latest models and products to a captive audience of Knysna, Plettenburg Bay and Sedgefield car nuts. The show is considered to be a very useful shop window, especially for those companies who do not have a showroom in this area. Unlike many other car shows, the Garden Route Motor Club makes an effort to place the trade stands among the classics, making for a more varied mix.
To add to the Country Fair atmosphere, a variety of food stalls and a bar service will be available, as well as live music, interviews and activities to keep the kids occupied. The entrance fee is R20 for adults and R5 for children under 12.
