Anti-GO GEORGE protest today
This photo was taken during a previous march against GO GEORGE last year.
GEORGE NEWS - A group referring to themselves as 'the disgruntled taxi industry' will stage a march this morning to show their dissatisfaction with the roll-out of the GO GEORGE project.
The march will start in Thembalethu at 09:00 and will then move to the Department of Transport in York Street.
The march will end at the George Municipality.
According to Lionel Esau, the spokesman for the disgruntled taxi industry in George, they demand that permits be issued to taxis to service the routes where GO GEORGE buses currently have the sole right to operate.
More information to follow later.

George is getting its own biomass energy plant which will use sawdust to generate energy. Local companies are stockpiling tonnes of sawdust in anticipation of supplying the plant which is set to start operating next year. A huge economic boost for George. On the other hand, wood waste is a controversial issue that nobody seems to know how to deal with. It is combustible and if it does catch alight, smouldering wood piles are difficult to extinguish. The fine wood particles may also cause air pollution. Catch 22. Should local companies be allowed to stockpile sawdust for the plant?
Yes, it makes economic sense.
No, the risk is too high.
