NATIONAL NEWS - Seventeen credit providers were arrested for allegedly using illegal collection methods against consumers in the Nqutu district, northern KwaZulu-Natal, the National Credit Regulator said on Wednesday.
"Police found the suspects in possession of 595 pension cards, 240 ID books and 240 bank cards," NCR legal adviser Deshne Govender said.
The credit providers were arrested last week in an operation carried out by the NCR, the SA Social Security Agency, and the police.
"The operation dubbed 'Project Blitzkrieg' primarily focused on credit providers who are unlawfully retaining pension cards, bank cards, identity documents and personal identity numbers of their clients as surety," Govender said.
