Garden Route golfers, unite
A shot that would scare even Ernie Els, the Retief Goosen or Tiger Woods! The brave model is Janique Gerber of the farm Attequa near Hoekwil. The Hoekwil Primary School’s Golf Day at Simola on September 1 promises to have nothing as challenging on the agenda! (Photo: Deon Sonnekus.)
KNYSNA NEWS - "Have a heart - come have a jol!" That is the invitation from the Hoekwil Primary School to golfers far and wide. The little-school-with-the-great-heart's biggest annual fundraiser, the Simola Golf Day, is happening on September 1. Without the income generated by this event, the school will struggle to survive.

"Hoekwil Primary School serves many single or no-income families with children who would have dropped out of the education system long ago if it was not for the school's fundraising efforts. I recently moved my children here from an affluent Cape Town School and I am really impressed with the loving foundation children get here," says Simola Golf Day organiser, Johann Badenhorst.

"The small staff here make miracles with very little resources. That is why I got involved in this project - I know that my entry money will help the dedicated teachers be the wind beneath the wings of every child in need for a term. This is my way of saying 'thank you' that my children's needs are met and that we were accepted into a loving, caring community - it is a bonus that I will get a good game of golf out of it too!"

The entry fee of R475 per person or R1 900 for a four-ball including the use of a golf cart, a halfway house voucher and a thank you gift. There are also lots of prizes and fun give-aways, including one for the Most Eloquent Outfit.

Johann is still looking for a few sponsorships. "We all know how important networking is, especially in this economic climate. This is a great opportunity to get your product seen by local movers and shakers. You or your company can sponsor a green or a tee-off box or a hole. This is possibly the smallest investment for the biggest return you will ever get," says Johann.

For more information, contact Johann on 082 857 9953.
