SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Fourteen Regional school teams from around the country, including Bishops, Grey, Dainfern College, Anton van Wouw and Umhlanga Primary School will compete for the South African Golf Association (SAGA) Primary School 2012 trophy from from 8 to 10 August at Oubaai.
South African golfing great Ernie Els is the patron for this event.
This tournament is an extension of the great work that is being done to bring the game of golf to the boys and girls of the junior age groups.
The second SA Primary Schools Championship Final will be held at the Ernie Els designed course at Oubaai, after which there will be a regional qualifier to determine which schools go through to represent them at the national finals.
This exciting tournament is designed not only to provide an opportunity for primary school kids to compete on a national level, but also to provide a structured channel to focus the good work of golf players, parents, teachers and coaches in this primary schools segment of the sport.
Commented Els: "I am thrilled to help provide these young kids with an organised and competitive tournament where they can develop their skills and talents, but more importantly learn the benefits of a healthy, active and outdoor lifestyle. I believe that playing sport and interacting with each other is such an important part of growing up, especially in the fast-paced world we live in today."
The scholars play 27 holes on Thursday and 18 holes on Friday. Each school has 4 players, except for Glenwood House which has two teams taking part in this event.
The finals will be played in two Divisions, the Championship Division and the Combined Schools Division (for smaller schools).
