NATIONAL NEWS - Police were monitoring a service delivery protest in Kagiso, on the West Rand, on Tuesday afternoon after it turned violent earlier in the day.
Warrant Officer Solly Sibiya said protesters pelted vehicles on Tudor Road with stones. They also barricaded roads leading into the township and the Chamdor industrial area.
The protests started on Monday afternoon when two children were knocked down by a truck on the same road. One of them died, said Sibiya.
"Residents are demanding that speed humps be constructed on the road to prevent further accidents."
Residents would not listen to officials from Mogale City municipality, who tried to speak to them on Tuesday.
They demanded to be addressed by mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane.
The residents said they had previously asked the municipality to construct the speed humps, but that nothing was being done, said Sibiya.
