Local 17-year-old a world champion
Phillip Anderson with his world championship trophy.
GEORGE NEWS FLASH - Phillip Anderson, a 17-year-old learner from Outeniqua High School, has just achieved what all sportsmen and women dream about - becoming a world champion.

Anderson was a member of the national Sport Martial Arts team that represented South-Africa at the recent ISKA World Martial Arts Championships in the USA.

Anderson has been an undefeated SA champion since 2006 and has won every major black belt open grand championship title, including the 2011 NMA-ISKA National and All Africa Open Black Belt Grand Championship fighting title.

Winning a world title didn't come easy for him either. His first world championship was the 2006 WPKA Kickboxing World Championships in Greece where he won a 5th place. He attended the 2007 ISKA World Championships where he was placed 3rd. The 2008 ISKA World Champs saw him take another 3rd, but in the 2010 World Champs he eventually made it to the finals and won a 2nd place.

At this year's event he competed in the boys 16 and 17-year-old black belt fighting division which is the highest level of participation at the world championships. In the preliminary rounds he fought a fighter from Jamaica and just managed to win by 7 to 6 points.
