Convict wants to go to Iraq

NATIONAL NEWS - A Namibian convicted for a R100 million robbery at OR Tambo International wants to serve time in Iraq instead of going to jail, The Star reported on Friday.
Uakereraije Maunda asked Judge Nico Coetzee in the High Court in Johannesburg if he could be "given another opportunity to protect Iraqis against Taliban insurgents instead of going to jail".
Maunda is an ex-Koevoet soldier. Koevoet was a paramilitary unity that operated during the Namibian War of Independence in the 1970s and 80s.
The court has found he helped his deceased uncle, Tjindunda Uakotoka, get rid of the cash stolen at the airport in March 2006. He had already spent six years in prison awaiting trial.
The trial continues.
