Theronda brought her spontaneity on visit from England

GEORGE NEWS - The irrepressible Theronda Hoffman's enthusiasm for art is undimmed after 20 years as an artist.

During an art demonstration given by her on Saturday at Strydom's Art Gallery, she confessed that it is her passion for art that fires her up. She has developed her own unique style and is unafraid to layer on brilliant colours and within an hour she had completed a painting of a poppy field, leaving us with a reminder that art is fun and that we should forget about being over critical about our work and get on with enjoying ourselves.as painters.

Theronda, who lives with her dentist husband Hoffie and two sons in the Suffolk coastal town of Ipswich, where she has an art studio, gives lessons and has one of her humorous paintings published in an English book entitled How artists see nature published by Green Pebble.

Her delicate drawing entitled Hare on the beach shows Aldeburgh in the background, with a wild hare bounding on the beach in the foreground. "I love the Suffolk sky and incorporating small hidden artworks within my paintings," said Theronda, who is described in the book as an artist who loves humour and fantasy.

Referring to life in England, this former Georgian admits that getting used to the climate was difficult at first, but the family are well settled in the town which is situated on an estuary of the Orwell River on the east coast. Her one son Isaac is about to graduate as a bio-medical scientist much to his parents delight, who are pleased that he has found his niche in life.

"Somewhere at the back of our minds we will want to return and retire in the Garden Route - we still have a holiday flat in Mossel Bay," said bubbly Theronda who was thanked by Scava chairman Ken Smith for having taken the trouble to bring her art material with her on holiday in order to give an art lesson.
