Residents have house demolished

GEORGE NEWS - A few residents from properties surrounding the derelict house in Omega Street clubbed together to pay for the demolition of the place early this morning.
The property is under liquidation.
Homeless people were living among the walls of the roofless house. Police recently made two arrests there after the theft of belongings from a flat in the Omega apartment complex.
The George Municipality had given the owner till today to do something about the house. However, a neighbour, Herman van Vuuren, said they applied for a demolition certificate from the municipality since they were not expecting anything to happen while the place was under liquidation. It was granted.
This morning four people carried out their scarce belongings - a few bags and a couple of blankets - before a front-end loader started pushing over the walls.
