Media locked up in Joburg lobster raid
12:57 (GMT+2), Fri, 06 July 2012
NATIONAL NEWS - Journalists and photographers were locked in a fridge at the Food Lovers' Market in Sandton on Friday for taking pictures of suspected undersized rock lobsters.

Sapa camerawoman Khatija Nxedlana tweeted that she was being held inside a "meat" fridge until she deleted her footage.

"Held by manager in the 'meat' fridge until pictures taken are deleted. Journos refuse -- its freezing in hear ?#DAFF?", she wrote.

She sent an sms to her office that she was in the fridge with Sapa photographer Werner Beukes and six other journalists.

The media had been invited by the fisheries department to accompany officials on a raid to seize suspected undersized lobsters being sold in Johannesburg.

Sapa reporter Sandy Moeketsi said she was chased out of the shop. Its management wanted photographers to delete all footage and pictures of the rock lobsters, which were being sold for R50 each.

They would let them out of the fridge only when the pictures had been deleted.

Police arrived on the scene and the journalists were released.
