Scarecrow Queen got the village talking
As part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations the villagers of Andover in England, had a scarecrow competition with a royal theme. Here Lorraine Kolarich of George is seen with her entry for which she received second prize. With her is Marjorie Eagar for whom she is carer.
GEORGE NEWS - George resident, Lorraine Kolarich's creative scarecrow came second in a scarecrow competition held in honour of Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee in Andover in England.

Kolarich, currently doing a six month 'caring' stint (caring for an elderly woman) elaborates in a recent chatty letter sent home: "This village has got a lot of spirit and there is always something going on. I entered the scarecrow competition and out of 36 came second! I was very pleased with that. I made a queen with a little brush dog - made from an old brush - and think I will bring the brush dog home to George."

As part of the Jubilee celebrations Andover had a "Know Your Village" quiz and a street party for which the road was closed off and villagers brought out loads of food.

Lots of people joined in the bike races and a fancy dress competition. "On my day off I walk into Andover which takes about an hour. I walk through fields and over the bridge and along the river. It is really lovely and I sometimes change route and go along some big dams where I have spotted otters in the early evening.

"Next week I will join a group from the village gardening centre to a trip to see the Hampton Court Palace flower show. It has been really cold and rainy. The floods broke a six week drought."
