GEORGE NEWS - R75 000 raised by a tea party!

George Child and Family Welfare's fifth annual auction and ladies tea held on Youth Day exceeded expectations by raising this amount. This is approximately R15 000 more than last year's fundraising efforts.

After hearing about the amount raised, Myron Rabinowitz, chairperson of George Child and Family Welfare was "absolutely delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of George, which just shows that we are a very caring community."
Although more than 300 tickets were sold for the event, the total head count for the day was 276, which also exceeded last year's attendance.

"Thank you to everybody, especially to all the ladies who attended and all the sponsors," were the sentiments of Karen Warneke, organiser of the day. When asked if a date had been finalised for next year's tea party, Warneke did not feel that she was up to organising a similar event for 2013 unless dedicated volunteers stepped in to assist her. Rabinowitz believed that "after putting so much work into something like this, you cannot blame someone" for feeling as Warneke did. He trusted that she would change her mind in the near future.

At this point the exact amount raised cannot be pinpointed as not everyone has collected their prizes. When the outstanding bidders have contributed their funds, to the amount of some R15 000, a final amount can be calculated.

This money will be used in the running of George Child and Family Welfare's soup kitchens, toy library, youth empowerment camps and work with rape survivors.
