ASWD busy during Knysna Oyster Festival

SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - This year Athletics SWD has once again added an activity to their Development Program during the Knysna Oyster Festival.

These events form part of Athletics SWD's Mass Participation and Talent Identification program. This coming Monday, 9 July 2012, will see athletes participate in the newly added Cross Country League.

Registration will start at 09:00 and the first race will be at 10:00, venue still to be confirmed. Several age groups and Seniors will be accommodated on the program. Entry fee is R10 per athlete. 500 Participation medals will be awarded and loads of lucky draws and hand-outs will be available.

The registration for relays will start at 14:00 and the first race commences at 15:00 from the Knysna Marathon Club House. The age groups are Sub Youth (11 - 13 Years), Youth (14 - 17 Years), Junior (18 - 19 Years) and Senior (20+ Years). Teams can either be male or female or male and female mix. Entry Fees for the Sub Youth teams are R50.00 (2km) and for the Youth and older teams R100.00 (4km). 500 Participation medals will be awarded along with prize money in various categories and lucky draws.

Wednesday 11 July will see the 5km and 10km road races. Registration will start at 13:00 for the 5km and at 15:30 for the 10km from the Knysna Marathon Club House. The official start of the races will be at 14:00 (5km) and 16:30 (10km). Entry Fees are R10 = 5km and R30 = 10km (Excl Temporary License Number for unlicensed athletes). 500 Participation medals for the 5km, 300 participation medals for the 10km, prize money in various categories in the 10km race, lucky draw and hand-out prizes can be expected.

On Thursday, 12 July, registration for the Street Miles will start at 14:00 with the first race at 15:00 from the Knysna Marathon Club House. Runners can enter in various age groups at R10.00 per athlete. 500 Participation medals, prize money in various categories and lucky draws are to be won.

SWD school-going athletes are exempted from entry fees in the Cross Country, Relay, 5km and Street Miles events.
