GEORGE NEWS - Many people do not know that the Cansa Care Centre at 103 Merriman Street offers breast examinations, PAP smears and lymph oedema management by the qualified nursing sister, Tersia Fourie.

Sister Fourie is the patient care and Interim Home manager of Cansa.

These services are offered at extremely low tariffs. A breast examination costs R40, a PAP smear R130 (lab costs included) and lymph oedema management R120 a session.

"Cansa is always trying to create awareness of the importance of prevention and early detection. With these tests, we make it afford-able for the public to be tested regularly," says Sister Fourie.

Making an appointment in advance is also convenient and there is no queuing. Strict patient confidentiality is maintained and patients are reassured by the fact that they are at an organisation that specialises in cancer services.

Counselling
Sister Fourie, who is experienced in providing emotional support to cancer sufferers and their families, also offers free counselling services at the Cancer Care Centre. She is an excellent source of information on cancer and treatment.
