The new chief marketing officer of Greater Oudtshoorn Tourism is Joan Shaw, who will be relocating from George.
GEORGE NEWS - The new chief marketing officer of Greater Oudtshoorn Tourism has been appointed. The chairman of tourism, Neil Els announced on Wednesday that Joan Shaw of George is the successful candidate.

The position became vacant with the resignation of Marita Serfontein.

"The quality of applicants for this position was of outstanding quality, which made the decision quite a challenge," said Els.
He describes Shaw as an experienced marketing and promotions professional who has been doing business in the Garden Route for more than eight years.

She held the position of CEO of George Tourism for six years, and has 20 years' marketing experience in the service industry. She has worked on managerial level in marketing and promotions for almost 20 years in various 5-star hotels such as Sun International, Legacy Resorts, Peermont Global and Fancourt.

In his statement, Els says that Shaw is "an accomplished marketing and tourism development executive with proven ability to develop and implement tourism marketing and development strategies that support business and financial objectives.

She has led key initiatives that have reduced operating budgets and contributed to business increase for various tourism products. In the past ten years she has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of tourism route development such as The Overberg Meander, The Outeniqua Country Hop Route and was a guest of the Northern Ireland Tourism Board to consult on route development."

Joan is a leader in marketing both the Garden Route and South Africa as a destination and is passionate about the development of SMMEs through experiential and mentorship programs."
