Fine halts NMMU games
00:00 (GMT+2), Thu, 07 June 2012
GEORGE NEWS - All NMMU George rugby teams that play in the Presidents League Coastal region have been barred from participating in SWD Rugby Union club games until they pay an outstanding R1 000 fine.

The university was fined after not attending an official event, according to Mr Hennie Baartman, President of the SWDRFU, who confirmed that "until they pay the fine of R1 000 in full, they may not participate in any games. This stipulation is contained in the constitution of the SWD as well as in its rules and regulations."

According to Pieter Botha, NMMU Marketing & Corporate Relations, "this is the current status due to [the] technical interpretation of club administrative aspects which is being followed up with the SWD Executive."

Baartman confirmed that this "constitutional issue applies to every SWD club. If the university pays the outstanding fine they will immediately be allowed to play their matches."

The games that the NMMU teams would have played on 26 May and 2 June were cancelled due to this situation.
