Busa approaches Motlanthe on e-tolls
08:35 (GMT+2), Fri, 01 June 2012
NATIONAL NEWS - Business Unity SA (Busa) has requested a meeting with the inter-ministerial committee tasked with addressing issues related to e-tolling, it said on Thursday.

"Busa has... approached deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, as chair of the committee, to engage with business on options to resolve the e-tolling issue," it said in a statement.

"In addition, Busa would like to raise possible long-term solutions to the broader financing and rollout of future road and transport infrastructure."

Measures could be identified, through consultation, to mitigate "unintended consequences" to the economy in delaying a resolution of the e-tolling matter, Busa said.

Earlier, Motlanthe announced that SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) CEO Nazir Alli, who resigned last month, would "stay put".

He said the resignation had been withdrawn.

On April 28, the High Court in Pretoria handed down an order preventing Sanral from levying or collecting e-tolls pending the outcome of a judicial review.

Last week, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan approached the Constitutional Court in an attempt to set aside the court order halting e-tolling.
