Golf tip: Wrist control
05:00 (GMT+2), Thu, 26 July 2012
GOLF NEWS - Are you frustrated with the ball flight you have and the direction the ball consistently goes and all the obvious have been checked – alignment, swing path, grip, angle of attack?

Then perhaps you need to get control of your left wrist.

The position of your left wrist (right handed golfers) at the top of the backswing controls the clubface angle which in turn has an effect on the clubface at impact.

To maximise distance and improve direction you need to compress the ball (see below) with a square clubface at impact which is made easier by having the clubface square at the top of the backswing.

In general, an open clubface at the top of the backswing (see below) will produce high blooping fades and a shut clubface at the top of the backswing will produce low pull hooks.

Get control of your wrist action and you could well see an improvement in your ball flight and direction.
