11:06 (GMT+2), Fri, 11 May 2012
NATIONAL NEWS - A five-year-old boy drowned when he went swimming in a canal near Kirkwood, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

Simphiwe Rooibaard's body was found at 9am on Thursday on the farm Bergkant, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.

"The boy went missing on Wednesday after he told his seven-year-old sister he was going for a swim in the water canal, which runs through the farm."

A police search Wednesday was unsuccessful and divers returned on Thursday. An inquest had been opened.
