National title for Rebula
Jovan Rebula receives the trophy after winning the SA Boys U.15 Strokeplay title at Somerset West.
SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Jovan Rebula won his biggest title yet when winning the SA Boys u.15 title at Somerset-West.

The tournament, played over 72 holes, tested the boys to the maximum. A field of 115 Boys from around South Africa, representing 14 provincial teams, played in this prestigious tournament. These are clearly the future champion golfers of South Africa.

Rebula started his tournament with a triple bogey 7 at the first hole having lost his ball on his second shot, but he did not let his mishap deter him and he showed amazing mental strength and resilience to score a 75 on day 1 to finish the day just one stroke behind the leader.

The first day was played in very testing conditions with strong winds accompanied by a light drizzle making scoring extremely difficult.

The second day's play saw the conditions again testing the players with strong gusting winds making it most uncomfortable. A 2nd round 74 saw Rebula take a 2 shot lead and in the 3rd round, where Jovan scored an excellent 73 in absolutely atrocious weather.

A gale force wind was the order of the day, but on the back 9 holes the late starters were not only confronted with the strong winds but also pouring rain that made conditions practically unplayable for the last few leading fourballs.

That Rebula managed to score a 73 is a tribute to his shot making ability in all conditions and his amazing mental strength. He had been under par for the round before the driving rain set in.

He maintained his lead and a final round 74 played in the best conditions of the week allowed him to win the title by 3 shots from Kyle McClatchie from Ekurhuleni.

Rosswell Sinclair from Gauteng North finished in 3rd place.

In the team competition the Southern Cape team of 6 players were tied with KwaZulu Natal in 3rd place after 2 rounds, but they were unable to hold that position and ultimately missed winning the bronze medal by just one position.

This is another excellent result by the Southern Cape junior golfers since they were only beaten by Central Gauteng who won the gold medal, Western Province (silver) and KwaZulu Natal (bronze).
