GEORGE NEWS FLASH - The ashes of an engineer who was involved in the upgrading of the Outeniqua Pass from 1993 to 1997, were scattered in the pass this morning.
His wife, Maureen Hughes (67) travelled specially fom England to bring her late husband's ashes to South Africa.
"It is only apt that this should be his last resting place," explained Mrs Hughes. "He was extremely passionate about his work. He lived for it and he loved this area very much."
After Mr Hughes finished the contract on the pass in 1997, the couple returned to their home country where he passed away in 2010 at age 66.
